Hollywood has gone “superhero” crazy with more comic book adaptations hitting the big screen every year. Marvel’s “Invincible Iron Man” is the latest comic book hero to come to life; not only on the screen, but also as an official video game.
The Iron Man title is available on a number of consoles including the Sony PSP. As Iron Man, you’re faced with 13 missions performing various tasks to complete each level. These tasks range from destroying targets to defending others from the enemy. The explosions look good but Iron Man is lacking in overall graphics. Objects aren’t well defined with unconvincing animation and sparse levels. It’s clear that the abundance of fog effects are used to cover up the deficiencies of the game engine.
Iron Man isn’t the first superhero video game to disappoint gamers and surely will not be the last. The biggest disappointment just may be the level of potential. The concept of fighting off an entire army as the Invincible Iron Man promises engaging battles and eye-popping graphics you can’t resist. Unfortunately, the version for the PSP fails to bring anything innovating and exciting to the superhero genre.
