Now this VERY cool. You may have heard of this really awesome psp community member of ours AKA modder known as F00 f00. You see, just this week, he’s done this incredible mod. Probably one of the best. And there’s a good reason why.
As you probably know, most people outside of our community think us psp gamers are just a bunch of time wasters or something. No gooders I was once called by my neighbor. (I guess I should have given him the Greg Focker “Karatee Chop” to the mouth! But lucky for him, my little sis and her “Cabbage Patch” playing friends held me back.)
Anyway, this psp mod created by F00 f00 is for a girl who has a limited use in one hand. You see, the psp controller is a litle difficult for her to use. So a friend asked F00 f00 for some help. So he does some kind of “voodoo” on the psp and adds a SNES controller.
… Awesome I know!
Anyway, if you’re thinking of doing the same thing to your psp, then here’s what he says;
This mod was achieved by adding a small socket to the back of the psp ( the socket was sent to me by a friend some time ago so I dont have a part number. I believe it was intended for a cell phone). I taped all of the relevant points on the psp mother board (some of which where horribly close together and tiny. Actually not some ALL of them where), and then ran these to the socket.
I used a file and dremal to cut a whole in the back of the psp and the socket fitted in with a satisfying *click*. I then put together a custom cable and plug that would fit the newly attached socket. This was then wired to the snes controllers pcb (attached directly to the traces of each button. And thats about it.
Anyway, watch this video of it in action.

BREAKING NEWS - Dark Alex has just released Custom Fw 5.00 M33-3 for the PSP. Now if you want to download it for your psp, I’d probably do it right about now. You see, Dark Alex is the man. Again. And again. And again.
Anyway, this is upgraded from 3.90 M33-3 without any kind of hickup.
Seriously. I don’t know if we should name our pets after him, or send him cash or something. All I do know is that Dark Alex ROCKS! He absolutely rocks the PSP.
Anyway, here’s what he says about PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-3 on his site;
A quick fix for the big bug introduced in M33-2…
Changes:
- A bug was introduced in 5.00 M33-2 that made some games and homebrew not to work.
- PSN version check is now automatically bypassed without need of touching any setting.
A die-hard PSP gamer knows all about memory and how important it is - the more you have, the better the experience. You can live a bit more freely with the CR-5400, a nice follow up to the PhotoFast CR-5300 microSDHC adapter. The CR-5400 offers support for dual microSDHC cards up to a maximum of 32 GB. This is a great value as microSDHC cards are high capacity yet pretty affordable. The CR-5400 is definitely a cheaper solution over the Sony Pro Duo Memory Stick which comes in at around $85 for a16-gig card.
There are several adaptors available that enable compatibility between microSD and the PSP memory slot but none are of a high capacity. The CR-5400 fits the bill and also features dual slots for two memory cards.
This adapter will really come in handy for someone who likes to watch a lot of videos on their PSP. Unfortunately, we don’t know exactly how much the unit will go for so be sure to check back to find out when you can get a hold of it.
Try as you may, but we all know its difficult to give your PSP that extra-special care it deserves. Of course you didn’t mean to drop it all those times, but things happen. You understand that storing your PSP in a backpack with all those brutalizing items isn’t the best idea, but hey, you’re in a hurry. Over time, your PSP is sure to suffer its share of abuse, putting its durability to the test.

News has been spreading about the new PSP firmware update which should be coming out very soon. And you know what? It’s true. You see, the update was confirmed by Sony earlier today. (In fact, by the time this goes up, it might ready for you to download through the network update!) Anyway, this psp firmware update will take us to 4.05.
Now you may be wondering what the update is going to do. Well, word is out that it’s got to do with new visualizers for music playback. You see, for sometime now, the good people at Sony have know how more and more people in our community are using the psp to listen to music. So they decided to do something about it.
If you’re like me, you probably know how this has taken a while to do. Especially when the old ones needed a bit of revamp. Personally, I hope the new ones are a bit more complex and more pleasing to the eye.
Anyway, if you were expecting something big to come out of this update, then you’ll be disappointed.

You may be wondering if the guys working on CFW 3.95 were going to live up to their promise and have something for us this weekend. Well, as you probably know, these guys don’t F$%K around!
You see, they have worked hard to release CFW 3.95 for the psp. And now, you benefit from it.
… Especially those of us who still have a fat psp. And the reason why is because CFW3.95 GEN is totally compatible with it.
Anyway, our good friend, Neelo, had this to say on the Colespot forum.
The team has taken steps to ensure that the VSHMENU from Popsloader, IRShell (well most of its fucntions), and CXMB were tested on 3.95 GEN. The results they’ve got is a mixed bag: while VSHMENU support is extended and confirmed working, IRShell’s ISO, UMD loading functionality and CXMB operation won’t work without updates and have limited success.
Here’s the breakdown of CFW 3.95 GEN’s changelog:
- Kernel updated to 3.95 (new nids, patches etc.)
- Recovery
- Option added in recovery to choose between VSHMenu and in-XMB recovery.
- Option added in recovery to choose between Sony, GEN and M33 network update modes
- XMB
- Access vshmenu/recovery with the SELECT button.
- Network Update icon can download directly from the GEN server (adjustable)
We remind the readers that you will need to have a PSP running on CFW 3.71 M33 to 3.95 GEN working on your handheld. As always, don’t forget to check out the Readme.txt file included in the file bundle for more information on how to install CFW 3.95 GEN. You can also view additional details on its different functions there.
As you probably know, Secret Agent Clank is released on June 17. And for those who don’t know much about it, then let me share this with review. You see, my spy’s tell me this psp game rocks. And it’s an adventure psp game you don;t want to miss.
Now, Ratchet, Clank, and Captain Qwark return in an all new adventure. You see, Clank takes the lead as the titular character. This means Secret Agent Clank is a real hoot. And the reason why is because it brings the humor, quality gameplay and action that fans have come to expect from the franchise back to PSP.
Anyway, if you are a fan, and planning on pre ordering this psp game, make sure you get it from Gamespot. You see, the reason why you want to do it is because they are giving away figurines of Clank. FREE.
… Like the one pictured above.
But to get it, you need to preorder your game and pay a deposit on it as soon as possible. I’m not sure how many they have left, but I think this is going to run out.
Anyway, for details of the closest Gamespot store closest to you, make sure you checkout their site.

PSP-Maps is a tool that allows you to browse Google Maps, Virtual Earth and Yahoo Maps with your PSP and its WiFi connection. You can move around the map, zoom in and out, cycle through the different available views, search for an address, load/save favorites, etc…
It includes a cache system so you can browse later the maps you have previously seen, even if you don’t have WiFi available. There is also a PC version if you don’t have WiFi at all, so you can build a cache on your computer and copy it to your PSP.
Technically, PSP-Maps connects directly to the servers to fetch the images, it does not use the provided APIs since there are usually in JavaScript and not convenient for a homebrew.
PSP-Maps v1.0 changes:
added GP2X version;
added Google Moon, Google Mars and Google Sky support; if you find the “cheat” code, you can enable these;
The name speaks for itself — transfer files via Ad hoc from one PSP to another: one-to-one or one-to-many (up to 6 psps).
The coolest part — if the receiving PSP doesn’t have Minerva’s homebrew installed, you can transfer said tool using Sony’s official game sharing. Then the rest is all gravy,matey
