BREAKING NEWS - Dark Alex has just released Custom Fw 5.00 M33-3 for the PSP. Now if you want to download it for your psp, I’d probably do it right about now. You see, Dark Alex is the man. Again. And again. And again.
Anyway, this is upgraded from 3.90 M33-3 without any kind of hickup.
Seriously. I don’t know if we should name our pets after him, or send him cash or something. All I do know is that Dark Alex ROCKS! He absolutely rocks the PSP.
Anyway, here’s what he says about PSP Custom Firmware 5.00 M33-3 on his site;
A quick fix for the big bug introduced in M33-2…
Changes:
- A bug was introduced in 5.00 M33-2 that made some games and homebrew not to work.
- PSN version check is now automatically bypassed without need of touching any setting.
The wait is over - the PSP 3000 officially went on sale October 14. While the model is improved with a new design and features, one of its biggest attractions is the firmware.
Version 5.0 is available to all PSP models and enables direct access to Sony’s online PlayStation store over a wireless connection. From the handheld you can download games, movies and demos right to your PSP. This is a major improvement as you once had to download content to a PC or PSP and then make the transfer.
Some say that this new freedom gives indication at the end of UMD. With Sony arming its online store with new content and the fact that Memory Stick Duo cards are cheap and widely available, one could assume that UMD is now a meager storage medium that just doesn’t get the job done any more. Nothing is official but it wouldn’t be surprising if the format was discontinued in the near future.
Wow. Dark_Alex is an absolute genius. Just hours after Sony releases psp firmware 5.0, our man, comes in and hit’s it with a ton of bricks!
Anyway, here’s what the great man says about it;
This is psardumper to extract 5.00.
Modules of psp3000 cannot be extracted and decrypted yet, due to keys being in 3000 ipl (kernel keys) and mesg_led03g.prx (filenames table keys).
Due to that, you will see various “warnings”, just ignore that.
So what does that mean?
Well, it means that some PSP-3000 modules cannot be decrypted yet; not even their names. The keys for the file names table are in “mesg_led03.prx” of the PSP-3000; which again, cannot be accessed yet. Due to that you’ll see various warnings when putting PSARDumper into action, i.e.) “could not find path of XXX.”
The other change in PSARDumper: no more buffer limitation. It is now loaded dynamically from the memory stick.
So, thankyou to Dark_Alex. You can find the download here.

If you been wondering if US psp gamers like you and me were going to get PSP firmware 5.0 like Japan are getting, then I’ve got some good news. You see, Playstation have just announced that the latest firmware will be available to US psp gamers some time soon. (Rumors has it that it will be ready for download in the coming days.)
Anyway, what this means for you is that you will be able to access the Playstation store right from your psp. However, it is not going to like the Japanese version where you get to download psp games. Well, not at the moment anyway.
You see, with the US version, there will be an option to enter your PSN Card numbers and voucher codes. The categories in the store are still up in the air, but there will be categories like UMD Legacy games, themes, video, and even music. Now, if they can only add downloadable psp games, then that is awesome.
Anyway, once we hear more about psp firmware 5.0, we’ll make sure you are the first to know about.

If you look really closely at this pic, you will probably see a couple of things which will interest you. You see, the PlayStation Store may hit the psp in the U.S. sooner than we expect. As you can see from the from the Limited Edition 4GB memory stick bundle box art pic from Amazon, the PlayStation Store interface is prominently displayed on the screen of the PSP.
Now, as you may know, Japanese PSP owners should be able to get access to it when the new psp is released sometime in the next few weeks. And you probably know that it will ship with version 4.20 or something. (I don’t think there will be anything too major about this version. Apart from the “USB Auto Connect” and “Flicker Reduction” functions.)
But apart from that, it’s really the first time anyone has mentioned that this feature will come out in North America. The only thing we can do now though, is to sit tight and wait for the Tokyo Game Show. You see, I get a feeling that we will hear more about what to expect from the new psp. (Although my spies tell me that the new psp is much brighter than the earlier models.)

News has been spreading about the new PSP firmware update which should be coming out very soon. And you know what? It’s true. You see, the update was confirmed by Sony earlier today. (In fact, by the time this goes up, it might ready for you to download through the network update!) Anyway, this psp firmware update will take us to 4.05.
Now you may be wondering what the update is going to do. Well, word is out that it’s got to do with new visualizers for music playback. You see, for sometime now, the good people at Sony have know how more and more people in our community are using the psp to listen to music. So they decided to do something about it.
If you’re like me, you probably know how this has taken a while to do. Especially when the old ones needed a bit of revamp. Personally, I hope the new ones are a bit more complex and more pleasing to the eye.
Anyway, if you were expecting something big to come out of this update, then you’ll be disappointed.

As you might know, Sony has been teasing us a little bit about when it would release PSP firmware 4.0 to us. Anyway, the Operations Director, or what I like to call, OD, Eric Lempel, has something cool to share with us. Well, have a look at this;
“…v4.00, will be released soon, adding Google
Internet search directly to the XMB (XrossMediaBar) interface.This new upgrade replicates the Google Internet search experience, delivering the same search results that you’d get at www.google.com. And with a search history recall of 20 items, Web searches couldn’t be easier.
After you download and install the firmware on your PSP click on the XMB’s Network icon and then the new Internet Search icon. Enter your keywords and then let Google’s algorithms do the work. You’ll need to be connected to the internet via a wireless access point or Wi-Fi hotspot. Googling something on the go has never been more convenient on your
PSP.Another new feature delivered through the 4.00 update is the ability to change viewing speed during playback of videos stored on your Memory stick Pro Duo, so you can speed through or slow down what you’re watching. To do this simply press the up or down directional buttons while playing a video.
Now you may be wondering if that is it. And like us, we thought they’d be doing more. Anyway, hopefully they are hiding something there for when they release it.
… That would be cool.

You may be wondering if the guys working on CFW 3.95 were going to live up to their promise and have something for us this weekend. Well, as you probably know, these guys don’t F$%K around!
You see, they have worked hard to release CFW 3.95 for the psp. And now, you benefit from it.
… Especially those of us who still have a fat psp. And the reason why is because CFW3.95 GEN is totally compatible with it.
Anyway, our good friend, Neelo, had this to say on the Colespot forum.
The team has taken steps to ensure that the VSHMENU from Popsloader, IRShell (well most of its fucntions), and CXMB were tested on 3.95 GEN. The results they’ve got is a mixed bag: while VSHMENU support is extended and confirmed working, IRShell’s ISO, UMD loading functionality and CXMB operation won’t work without updates and have limited success.
Here’s the breakdown of CFW 3.95 GEN’s changelog:
- Kernel updated to 3.95 (new nids, patches etc.)
- Recovery
- Option added in recovery to choose between VSHMenu and in-XMB recovery.
- Option added in recovery to choose between Sony, GEN and M33 network update modes
- XMB
- Access vshmenu/recovery with the SELECT button.
- Network Update icon can download directly from the GEN server (adjustable)
We remind the readers that you will need to have a PSP running on CFW 3.71 M33 to 3.95 GEN working on your handheld. As always, don’t forget to check out the Readme.txt file included in the file bundle for more information on how to install CFW 3.95 GEN. You can also view additional details on its different functions there.
