Invincible Iron Man

Files under PSP, PSP Games | Leave a Comment

iron manHollywood has gone “superhero” crazy with more comic book adaptations hitting the big screen every year. Marvel’s “Invincible Iron Man” is the latest comic book hero to come to life; not only on the screen, but also as an official video game.

The Iron Man title is available on a number of consoles including the Sony PSP. As Iron Man, you’re faced with 13 missions performing various tasks to complete each level. These tasks range from destroying targets to defending others from the enemy. The explosions look good but Iron Man is lacking in overall graphics. Objects aren’t well defined with unconvincing animation and sparse levels. It’s clear that the abundance of fog effects are used to cover up the deficiencies of the game engine.

Iron Man isn’t the first superhero video game to disappoint gamers and surely will not be the last. The biggest disappointment just may be the level of potential. The concept of fighting off an entire army as the Invincible Iron Man promises engaging battles and eye-popping graphics you can’t resist. Unfortunately, the version for the PSP fails to bring anything innovating and exciting to the superhero genre.

Sony to Discontinue 2200 mAH Battery

PSP Battery

Just this past week, Sony reported that the company will be discontinuing their 2200 mAH battery. This popular battery offered extended life and increased playback on your PSP by almost 50%. Some PSP gamers have reported getting over ten hours of uninterrupted play with the official Sony replacement.

As of now, it is unclear why the 2200 mAH battery was cancelled. It has been speculated that a decline in sales may have attributed, indicating that some gamers might be satisfied with PSP-2000’s standard pack. Others have hinted that Sony is looking to combat piracy by developing a more secure battery as pirates have learned to gain access to the system and create “mods” or modified versions of the battery.

Considering how useful the 2200 mAH was, we hope that Sony brings us something just as good, if not better.

Who You Gonna Call? GHOSTBUSTERS

PSP

PSP gamers were crushed last week when Activision announced that it would not be publishing Ghostbusters for the Sony handheld console. The game is originally a title from Terminal Reality on the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC and by Red Fly for the PS2, the Nintendo Wii and DS. Despite last week’s news, there may be a small ray of hope according to reports on a blog called the Cut Scene.

On the blog, Variety video games reporter and editor Ben Fritz claims that he has been in contact with Sony Pictures who owns the namesake to the Ghostbusters franchise. Fritz goes on to report that a rep from Sony pictures is currently working with Activision to discuss a number of options regarding the release of a Ghostbusters title. The blog post also states that Sony is reevaluating the marketing scheme to possibly schedule a release that coincides with the 25th anniversary of the original film in 2009.

Right now all of this is merely speculation originating from a video game reporter and a nameless rep. As soon as the true intentions are revealed, we’ll let you know.

Newspapers in Thailand report that the teen was arrested while attempting to drive the taxi in reverse down a Bangkok street with the driver in the backseat. Bangkok police claim that the 18 year old confessed to killing the 54 year old driver after he tried to defend himself. If found guilty, the teen could face the death penalty. According to police Captain Veerarit Pipatanasak, the youngster wanted to known if robbing a taxi was as easy in reality as portrayed in the video game.

Thailand’s Culture Ministry has pushed hard to enforce more strict regulations on titles like Grand Theft Auto. The Ministry is going after tougher age ratings along with restrictions on how long these games can be played in arcades.

No PSP Games Releases August 17

HellDashX Custom Firmware PSP

So this is getting a little boring. I say boring because they keep doing it to us.

You know. Those pesky game companies, not releasing any psp games for us.

As you probably know, there are no new psp games being released for August 17. Not sure why the game makers are doing it to us, but that’s the way it’s been for the last few weeks. Maybe it’s because of the Olympics or something.

Anyway, if you need to play psp games, you can always have a look at this site. You can get whatever you want there. But for a price right.

Otherwise, check out the bargain bins at some of the games store. Maybe there’s a psp games or two to play.

Let’s hope we have better news for you next week.

Phantasy Star Portable

Files under PSP, PSP Games | Leave a Comment

Phantasy Star

Sega continues to make PSP history with their Phantasy Star Portable, which sold 217,000 in Japan on its first day of sale. This figure is just shy of the record held by Monster Hunter Portable 2nd G, which is still the best selling PSP title to date with over 2.4 million copies sold.

The great chemistry between Sony and Sega is apparent as they have managed to strike gold twice with two big hits for the PSP. Monster Hunter fans have taken an instant liking to Phantasy Star as the two games share many similarities.

Just like Monster Hunter, Phantasy Star Portable is a party-based combat game with a huge emphasis on building stats. Although the handheld version utilizes the same graphics engine as the previous online version, Phantasy Star Portable doesn’t support an online multi-player feature. This one calls for party members to be in the same room in order to play the game, a trend that is obviously popular among Japanese gamers.

Aside from Phantasy Star Portable, the release of PSO provided a tremendous boost in hardware sales to keep the Sony PSP high on top of the charts for two consecutive weeks.
